My beautiful, light-filled flats and art hubs can sleep up to 6 people in each unit.
You will have access to high-speed wifi, high quality linen and towel, and plenty of wardrobe space. The flat is filled with original art, handmade and classic design furnishings, offering a cozy and stylish environment. The southwest facing flat provides amazing views, including sunrise in winter and stunning sunsets all year round.
In the south-west facing flat you is a large aquarium with my 29-year-old turtle named Aida and two fish friends. If you are booking for more than two nights, please be willing to feed them or let me or one of my housekeepers come in.
The spaces are located in a 1970 ex-council Brutalist tower designed by the esteemed architect Leonard Manasseh of Green Lloyd & Adams for the GLC. Manasseh was elected a Royal Academician in 1979. The building, like all Brutalist architecture, is loved by some and hated by others, but it is a characterful real-life East London tower block run by Hackney Council. The neighbours are friendly, and it is only 2 minutes away from a traditional East Enders Saturday market.
The tower is a mix of privately owned and local authority flats, with people from all nationalities and walks of life.
Sustainability and creativity are two of my key values, which you can see reflected in the decoration and design. The flat is full of books, art catalogues, antique furniture, and many other hand-made and thoughtful design objects, some of which have been in my family for generations.
Some well known artists and writers have lived or stayed here and have included the name and image of the building in their work. It was the subject of a project by the photographer Rut Blees Luxembeurg, featured in William Kherbek's novel New Adventures and served as the main filming location for the feature film Panic (2014). The building is named after a Shakespearean character because his first theatre was located minutes away from the building.
The two lifts are shared with 51 other flats, and they are cleaned every weekday. The open-plan living room and kitchen area are equipped with 180-degree double-glazed windows and a balcony, offering a stunning view of the city. The flats are also fitted with bespoke kitchens and Miele washing machines.
The flats are not just a short-term rental but are galleies and my own home where I work and live. The artworks on the walls are always changing, and most are for sale. I have lived in London all my life and in the building since 2002. I am always happy to offer advice about cafes, restaurants, bars, galleries, or other things to do in the area.
Finally I want to emphasise that myself and my team are LGBT friendly. If you're looking for a corporate-style stay, this may not be the place for you. But if you appreciate unique character, creatively and contemporary art my hubs would be perfect for a Hoxton homestay!
